The film: ‘Green Fingers’ continuing our feel good films with a gardening theme.
Colin Briggs (Clive Owen) is serving a sentence for murder, and has all but given up on life. But after being transferred to an open prison in the heart of the Cotswolds and meeting one of the “lifers” – Fergus (David Kelly) – existence takes on a whole new meaning.
With his eccentric passion for gardening, the ageing Fergus is the last man Colin would normally team up with. But when he plants some seeds for Fergus – and they grow and blossom – Colin is strangely drawn to the garden. Soon, the inmates are hooked on horticulture, impressing both the Prison Governor and the colourful gardening author, Georgina Woodhouse (Helen Mirren), who urges the Royal Horticultural Society to sponsor a prisoners’ show-garden.
Yet Colin finds that he is hooked on more than just roses and violets. In fact, it’s a certain Primrose who now consumes his thoughts… Georgina’s beautiful and elusive daughter. Based on a true story, Greenfingers is a heart warming and inspiring tale of triumph over adversity.
