PRIVATE visit to HARLAXTON MANOR near Grantham (NG32 1AG)
Wednesday 22nd July 2026
Own Transport
Meet at 1.15pm
We are incredibly privileged to be invited to visit these Gardens, which are some of Harlaxton’s most treasured features. The house and grounds are only open to the public on a few weekends each year, and our group will have a private visit led by 2 experienced members of their staff.
The highlight of our tour will be to go into the Grade II listed 6.5 acre walled garden, which is one of the largest in Britain and they have big plans for it, which we will find out more about during our visit.
We will also have a guided tour of the formal gardens at Harlaxton Manor, which were created as an integral feature of the stately home built by Gregory Gregory in 1832. In the context of the times, surrounding garden spaces and features provided recreation, a connection to nature, possibilities for social interaction, and an appreciation of moods set by varying types of contrived and natural outdoor spaces. Nearly 200 years later, the essential purpose of the Gardens remains unchanged.
Highlights of the Gardens include French-style terraces, an Italian Garden, a Dutch ornamental canal, and English landscape walks. The Conservatory is virtually unique in design and use of architectural elements.
Constructed in 1831, few houses can match the breath-taking approach to Harlaxton – a straight, mile-long drive across an ornate lakeside bridge, under a gatehouse to the towering, fairytale façade that is Harlaxton Manor which is set amongst 300 acres of formal gardens and mature woodland. This iconic Manor House offers unparalleled views over the Vale of Belvoir in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
STOUT WALKING SHOES WILL BE ESSENTIAL! There is restricted access for wheelchairs etc and the walled garden and much of the formal gardens have uneven terrain. This means this visit may not be suitable for everyone.
