Meet in the Little Lane free car park (LE12 7BH) at 2.15pm
For our walk this year we have chosen one of our more industrial villages of Leicestershire and, once again, it will be led by Janet Spavold. The village is known for its Buttercross market and the granite quarry, the largest in Europe. The walk will last for just over an hour and will be followed by full afternoon tea at Stonehurst Farm (LE12 7AA), which is a few minutes drive from the car park.
Janet Spavold‘s working life has been spent in higher education, first teaching Medieval Literature, then running a Local History degree course. For 20 years she ran a WEA/Nottingham University evening class research group in local history and the group published three books. Her own research covers a wide range of historical material, in recent years centred on Ticknall, South Derbyshire.
Cost: Friends £15.00 Guests £16.00
