Bring own packed lunch
Westbrooke House is a late Victorian property built in 1887. There are six acres of garden approached through a tree-lined drive of mature limes and wellingtonias. The gardens have lawns, woodland paths, meadow, pond area and two splendid walled gardens. One of these is devoted to flowers and the other mainly to vegetables. The Research Group was particularly impressed by the design and content of the walled gardens.
It’s been a while since we’ve visited Cottesbrooke and since then work has been done by James Alexander-Sinclair and Arne Maynard. These gardens are always a pleasure to visit and it will be interesting to see the changes that have been made. The formal gardens and terraces surround the Queen Anne house and there are extensive vistas up to the lake and 18th century parkland containing many mature trees. There is a new Head Gardener who will be taking our tours of the garden.
